Takes about thirty seconds. After this, Knockoff sits on your home screen like any other app — tap it, punch in your PIN, fill in your day. No App Store, no download, nothing to update.
Your boss will have sent you a link. If you tapped it straight from WhatsApp, Messenger or your texts, it's opened inside that app's own little browser — and that one can't save Knockoff to your home screen.
Look at the bottom of the screen for the compass icon, or tap the ••• in the corner and choose Open in Safari.
It's the square with an arrow pointing up out of it, at the bottom of the Safari screen. On an older iPhone or an iPad it might be up the top right instead.
Scroll down the grey list that slides up. Add to Home Screen is a fair way down, past Copy and Print. Tap it, then tap Add in the top right.
The yellow Knockoff icon is now sitting on your home screen with the rest of your apps. Tap it, find your name in the list, and enter the 4–6 digit PIN your boss gave you.
If it asks to use your location, tap Allow While Using App. That's how the job site gets recorded when you clock in.
Your boss will have sent you a link. If you tapped it from WhatsApp or your texts it may have opened in that app's own browser. Tap the ⋮ in the corner and choose Open in browser or Open in Chrome.
Top right of the Chrome screen — three dots stacked up, ⋮. That opens Chrome's menu.
Look for Install app or Add to Home screen — Samsung and other phones word it slightly differently. Tap it, then tap Install or Add to confirm.

If it asks to use your location, tap While using the app. That's how the job site gets recorded when you clock in.
Once it's on your home screen, this is all there is to it.
Open the app, pick your name, enter your PIN. Choose the job site you're at, then tap Clock In.
When you get to the next job, pick it from the moved to another site? box under Clock In/Out and tap Arrived. Do it every time you change site. The app keeps a list of where you've been today.
Tap Start Lunch when you stop, and end it when you are back on the tools. Worked through? Tap Worked through — no lunch. Your paid hours are worked out for you.
Tap Clock Out, check the hours, add a note if you need to, and hit Submit. Done.
Five things go wrong. All five have a quick fix.
Paste the clock-in link your boss sent you into the box on that screen and tap Link this phone. That's all it needs. It happens when the icon gets opened before the link has been used on that phone.
You're in WhatsApp's browser, not Safari. Tap the compass icon at the bottom of the screen, or ••• then Open in Safari, and start again from there. On Android, the same thing happens if you're not in Chrome.
Your boss hasn't added you yet, or has added you under a different spelling. Give them a nudge — it takes them about ten seconds from their dashboard.
Ask your boss — they can reset it from their dashboard in a few seconds and give you a new one. Nobody can look up an old PIN, us included, so don't email us.
Clock in, clock out and tap Arrived as normal. The app holds onto them and sends them through as soon as your phone has coverage again, so nothing is lost. Submit your day once you're back in range.
Copy this into your crew's group chat with your clock-in link on the end. Works better than explaining it seven times.
